The Cheal Story
Integrity | Loyalty | Community | Innovation | Growth
We’re leading the way with cutting-edge technology and our team of industry leaders. Our strong history and breadth of experience means we know what works.
Laurie Cheal was a land surveyor who set up a small business in Taupo in 1940 – when the region looked a lot different. Laurie was a man who defied convention and this, combined with the development of the Taupo township, saw his operation grow into what now has over 60 employees and six offices in Taupo, Rotorua, Hamilton, Napier, Ohakune and Taumarunui.
As a salute to Laurie, the Cheal name has been consistently applied through many different organisational structures and business partnerships over the years. No longer just a surveying practice, Cheal now employs civil, structural and geotechnical engineers, land surveyors and resource management planners along with a strong support team.
The tradition of defying convention continues today with leading technology playing a key role in the business; from internal project and quality management systems, through to CAD design and 3D modelling software, and the use of drones, 3D laser scanners, laser trackers and top of the range surveying equipment. This ongoing investment maximises our ability to perform for our clients and run a highly efficient business at the same time.
Our multidisciplinary structure enables clients to get the best in collaboration on projects. A strong team of highly qualified professionals that know and trust each others’ capabilities brings big-picture thinking and a focus on exceptional outcomes.
As an organisation, we have developed our own culture with cornerstone values that are the essence of everything we do. Decades of experience and a documented history of many thousands of projects, Cheal has a true commitment to our work having a positive effect on the future of New Zealand.
